78 Fall Table Decor Ideas for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Everyday Meals
With fall approaching, The Spruce has published a collection of 78 table decorating ideas for the season, ranging from Halloween and Thanksgiving centerpieces to simple setups for casual dinners. Several ideas focus on color palettes. Interior designer Marie Flanigan told The Spruce she prefers neutrals with soft wheat and linen tones, adding depth with rustic brown glass bottles, candles, and soft florals. For a more traditional look, the roundup suggests shades of orange, rust, mustard, and crimson. Blogger Annie Diamond of Most Lovely Things advised improvising with what you have, saying, "It's not always buying new."

Centerpiece ideas include pairing pumpkins with pillar and votive candles, as shown by Modern Glam; using a large arrangement of dried florals that spills onto the table, from Homestead City Dwelling; and mixing real and faux greenery in a copper vessel, from My 100 Year Old Home. For a longer table, Sugar and Charm lined up bud vases filled with garden clippings and pinecones.

DIY projects appear throughout the list. The Merrythought made pumpkin place cards by cutting a slit in mini craft pumpkins with an X-ACTO knife. Inspired by Charm created dried-flower napkin rings from backyard flowers dried for three weeks. Lovely Indeed made succulent-filled pumpkins for an outdoor table. Finding Lovely painted papier-mâché pumpkins in muted shades.

For those decorating on a budget, the roundup suggests using items from around the house. Most Lovely Things set a table with amber bottles, votive candles in mini pastry tins, dried flowers, and vintage plates. The House That Lars Built made a centerpiece from yellow, brown, and gold-toned fruits and vegetables—onions, squash, and pears—that could be upcycled into dinner the next day. Craftberry Bush deconstructed a grocery store bouquet and used the plastic to line a thrift-shop copper vessel.
Outdoor settings are also covered. Finding Lovely decorated an outdoor table with foraged flowers, grasses, branches, and stems in a copper vase. Anita Yokota used a neutral table runner, black-and-white tableware, and burnt orange florals for a Los Angeles backyard table. Herzen Stimme layered pillar candles, tea lights, hurricane lanterns, and LED twinkle lights for warmth.
The collection includes Halloween-specific ideas, such as Sugar and Charm's ghost-themed table with DIY ghost pumpkins and ghost-shaped candle holders, and Emily Henderson Design's black-and-white spooky table. For Thanksgiving, Maison de Cinq set a neutral table with pale white pumpkins, candles, and eucalyptus, while The House That Lars Built created a gratitude tree where guests could write what they are thankful for on paper leaves.
Designers quoted in the roundup emphasized flexibility. Marie Flanigan said, "Fall decor doesn't have to be stereotypical." She suggested adding organic elements like straw, wheat, foliage, or raffia, complemented by figs, persimmons, and pears. Sheila Irwin of Maison de Cinq advised mixing vintage-style plates with simple white dinnerware, noting, "It's one of the easiest ways to create a cute table."
